My Story

I like to think of myself as a jack-of-all-trades. A writer at heart, I have a degree in English but another in Information Systems. In my professional life thus far I have been:

  • a radio DJ
  • fry cook
  • soil sample technician
  • retail sales associate
  • copy center manager
  • over-the-road truck dispatcher
  • logistics manager
  • help desk technician
  • system engineer
  • programmer
  • technical writer
  • higher education administrator
  • writer
  • editor
  • project manager
  • landlord
  • provider of home care services
  • slinger of super premium ice-cream

Some of those jobs I held in high school and college. The jobs in the middle represent my years of traditional employment, working for someone else in exchange for a salary, health benefits and a calculated number of vacation days per year. The last six items describe my transition into a full-time entrepreneur. :)

I had always wanted to be my own boss, but until 2005 I lacked the courage simply to do. Since that time, I’ve had noteworthy successes and some truly spectacular failures. I’m chronicling future exploits here and will also share my hard-won insights from ventures done right and those gone oh-so wrong.
